July on the rivers of Evenkia: weather, water, light nights and midges

The 2027 expedition departs on 5 July. That is the middle of the short northern summer: warm days, cool nights and long light. Here is what to expect and how to prepare.

Short answerIn July Tura averages about +16 °C: days are often +20 or warmer, nights +8 to +11. Rain is frequent but usually short. Nights are light and the sun sets late. July is also peak midge season, so a head net, repellent and covering clothes are essential. Dress in layers: river weather changes within an hour.

Weather

According to climate summaries, July in Tura averages about +16 °C. Days often reach +20 to +21 °C and nights drop to +8 to +11 °C. On the water, and in a moving boat, it is always cooler than on the bank, especially in the morning and on the transfer.

Summer here is damp: July brings ten or more rainy days, mostly short showers. A waterproof jacket and trousers are needed every day.

Light nights

Tura lies at about 64° north, below the Arctic Circle, so there is no true midnight sun. But in early July the sun sets late and briefly, and the nights stay light. The evening session easily runs past midnight. Bring a sleep mask if light keeps you awake.

Water

Northern rivers pass their flood peak in late spring and early summer, and in July the water usually drops and clears. The level still depends on last winter's snow and recent rain, so the guide plans each day's route around the water.

Midges and mosquitoes

July in the taiga is peak season for mosquitoes and blackflies. There are fewer in the wind by the water and more on a still evening by the forest. You just need to prepare for them.

  • A head net over a hat or cap
  • Repellent for skin and a treatment for clothing
  • Tightly woven long-sleeved clothing with cuffs
  • Thin gloves for the evening
  • After-bite cream in your first aid kit

How to dress

Layering works: a wool or synthetic base layer, fleece and a waterproof shell on top. Leave cotton at home: it gets wet and stays wet. Wet clothes dry overnight in the camp's drying tent. The full list is in the packing list.

The 2027 expedition: departs 5 July, 7 days, 300,000 RUB. Route, boats, camp and what the price includes, all in one PDF.

FAQ

Is it cold in the tent at night?

No. The tents have autonomous heaters, and every guest gets a warm sleeping bag.

Do I need a down jacket?

A light down jacket or warm fleece is useful in the evening and on a cold morning boat run. A heavy winter coat is not needed.
