Your own boat gives freedom, but on a remote river it also raises questions: shipping, fuel, repairs and safety. The earlier you agree on these with the camp, the calmer the trip.
Shipping the boat
How the boat travels depends on the size and weight of hull and motor; methods and timing are agreed with the organiser. Start the conversation months ahead: cargo to the north often follows a seasonal schedule.
Fuel
Fuel in the north is shipped in advance and costs more than in cities. Tell the camp your motor's consumption and planned trips so volume and cost can be calculated.
Agreement checklist
- Boat size and weight, motor type and power
- Shipping: method, timing, cost, liability for the cargo
- Fuel: volume, price, payment
- Mooring and storage in camp
- River sections allowed and known hazards
- Whether a guide should join for the first days
- Communication and what happens if the boat breaks down
- Spare parts and repair kit to bring
- Boat documents and small craft registration requirements
Safety
Even an experienced skipper can be surprised by an unfamiliar northern river: riffles, sunken logs, sudden rises after rain. Make the first trips together with a camp guide.
The 2027 expedition: departs 5 July, 7 days, 300,000 RUB. Route, boats, camp and what the price includes, all in one PDF.
FAQ
Does the boat need registration?
Registration requirements for small craft depend on the boat and motor. Check them with GIMS (the Russian small craft inspectorate) before the trip.
Can I go out without a guide?
This is agreed when the format is arranged. Either way, make the first trips with a camp guide.
